Practical information
The education programme, directly related to the temporary exhibitions, is a fundamental axis of MARCO's project focusing on experiences and learning about perception. Throughout the year, MARCO offers a stable programming highlighted by visits and workshops for schoolchildren, activities for families, and courses for adults, plus additional programming and events each season intended for a specific type of audience or public.
Schoolchildren
Throughout the school year, MARCO offers free programs for visits and workshops related to temporary exhibitions, including specific activities for Child Education, Primary, Secondary, High School and Vocational Training. The program consists of a tour through the exhibition galleries accompanied by specialised educators, and a subsequent workshop in the "Laboratorio das Artes", the education space on the 1st floor. Programs are designed custom-made depending on the contents of the exhibition and on the ages and the educative cycles, and can include optional activities before and after their visit to MARCO.
The visit + workshop is 1h15min long. Independent of the number of participants coming from each centre, upon arrival they will be organised in groups of 25 students by the training staff for a better use of the facilities. Adults accompanying the group must be with them at all times. Eating or drinking is not permitted inside the museum, except for in the cafeteria. Should the group have any specific needs or preferences in modifying the visit with regards to duration or contents, please do not hesitate to inform our Educative Dept. in advance.
Hours: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11:00am to 1:30pm
1st visit from 11:00am to 12:15and 2nd visit from 12:15 to 1:30pm
[Visits can also be organised outside these hours (no workshop included) in the evening, from 7pm to 8pm]

Families
Workshops for children 3-years and up
Hours: Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 4pm
Familiarization with the museum space, the experimentation with different techniques and materials, or group games are basic characteristics of the activities for families held at MARCO on the weekends.
Parents have the option to remain in the "Laboratorio das Artes" or leave their children with the educators for two hours maximum. During that time they can visit the museum installations. In the event that the parents abandon the museum´s installtions they must leave their cell phone number with the educators.
For a better efficiency in the organization of the groups and development of activities, cut off time to enter workshops is 6.15pm on Fridays, and 12.15pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
Adults who leave their children in the "Laboratorio das Artes" shall be responsible for them and it must be the same person and no other who picks them up at the end of the class. Maximum number allowed per session: 3 children per adult.

Courses
Between October and May every year, MARCO organizes several art and contemporary culture courses, addressed to people interested in artistic expressions of the 20th and the 21st centuries. Although the program can vary from one edition to the other, it is about introductory courses to contemporary art, thematic and interdisciplinary courses, and monographic courses which allow a thorough analysis of artists and specific periods.
